MTV… VMA… Janet Jackson!

October 25, 2009

Hey guys,

We’ve held this back a little while. With all the Michael Jackson hype going on, we think this would be a good addition to our blog.

We’ve managed to get our hands on the HD footage of Janet Jackson @ the MTV VMA’s earlyer this year.

THE NEWS ARTICLE

”The hits just keep on coming for the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, and the latest performance announcement is a huge one: Janet Jackson will be performing a tribute to her late brother Michael, who passed away back in June. In fact, Janet’s tribute will open Sunday night’s show, which is fitting considering Michael was responsible for one of the greatest opening segments in Video Music Awards history, when in 1995 he performed a medley of some of his biggest hits (which included a guest guitar solo by Velvet Revolver axeman Slash) before scoring three Moonmen for his video for “Scream” (his one and only collaboration with sister Janet).

It’s still unclear what songs will be included in Janet’s tribute to her brother, but considering it’s the Video Music Awards and Michael was such a huge icon in the music video universe, it’s easy to assume it will incorporate some of his bigger video moments (it would be shocking if it didn’t include at least a portion of the “Thriller” dance). Janet, a nine-time Moonman winner herself (including a Video Vanguard prize and two wins for Best Female Video), is no stranger to the VMA stage herself, having performed three times previously and was last on the show in 2000 at Radio City Music Hall (where she performed “Doesn’t Really Matter”). The performance has even spawned the excellent promo below, which plugs the performance using a very unusual form of weather that may or may not afflict the New York City area this Sunday night.”

SAW VI – Are you ready….?

October 22, 2009

httpvhd://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MW8BaH-w7-4

Saw VI is the sixth installment in the Saw film series. The film, which began shooting on March 30, 2009, will be released in theaters on October 23, 2009.

Saw VI is directed by Kevin Greutert, who has been the editor on all the past Saw films to date. Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, the writers for both Saw IV and V, have returned to write Saw VI.

On April 29, Lions Gate released a brief synopsis of the plot. Details revealed include confirming Agent Peter Strahm’s death and Lieutenant Mark Hoffman continuing Jigsaw’s work. The FBI is reportedly on Hoffman’s trail. This forces him to set up another game. Jigsaw’s overall scheme will also be finally understood. The last revealed trap, a “Steam Room,” has yet to be expanded on by the producers, but it is said to be a multi-level trap. Recent screens also show Hoffman viewing Strahm’s crushed corpse as well as setting up the “Rack” trap from Saw III.

Jay-Z feat. Kanye West & Rihanna – Run This Town

October 21, 2009

Run This Town” is a 2009 song performed by American rapper Jay-Z. The song features Barbadian R&B singer Rihanna and rap artist Kanye West, who also produced the song alongside No I.D. It is released as the second single of Jay-Z’s studio album The Blueprint 3. After the song was released to iTunes on August 11, 2009, it jumped to the third position and peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, making it his highest peak as a lead artist to date. It is also Jay-Z’s first Top 5 Rap Song since 2006’s “Show Me What You Got”. Jay-Z, Rihanna and West performed “Run This Town” on the series premiere of The Jay Leno Show on September 14, 2009. It is Jay-Z’s first number one in the UK as a leader artist.

The video was directed by Anthony Mandler and was filmed on August 6, 2009 at Fort Totten Park in New York City. The video was leaked on August 19, 2009 by MTV Germany. It involves people in masks, holding torches whilst walking. Rihanna takes a bandana from covering her mouth and starts to sing in a park while explosions are going off around her. Then Jay-Z sings his verse whilst in a temple-like area. At one point the trio are on a stage-like platform with the mob surrounding them. Kanye West sings in a cave-like area holding a torch and having a bandana cover his face like Jay-Z and Rihanna.

The video premiered on August 20 on MTV, as well other MTV channels across the world, and the internet. Anthony Mandler the director of the music video had this to say:

“There’s a tone and feeling to the song, there’s a militia, a march and a kind of rambunctious energy to it that, for me, I immediately wanted to tap into. I showed [Jay] some references from the classic rebellious zones of the world. We live in very orderly society in America, but when you get into Brazil, you get into the Middle East, you get into Africa, you get into Eastern Europe, when you get into places like that, there’s a different sort of ‘we run this town’ [going on]. There’s less order and more chaos. So we looked at a lot of those references, new photos and historical photos, to capture that kind of falling-apart feeling.”

“We wanted you to feel uneasy throughout the piece,” he said. “We wanted there to be a constant layer of tension through the piece. Even in the way I shot — where the camera comes by Jay, it doesn’t stop on him, it goes to Rihanna — there’s kind of this chaos of revealing and covering and concealing. And things happen offscreen that you don’t see. I think people are really gonna flip on this”. The video was released to iTunes on August 25, 2009.
