Check out this awesome track! It’s a fairly new music genre called DubStep.

Dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music that has its roots in London’s early 2000s UK garage scene. Musically, dubstep is distinguished by its 2-step rhythm, or use of snare sounds similar to 2step garage and grime, and an emphasis on bass, often producing “dark” sounds, but just as frequently producing sounds reminiscent of dub reggae or funky US garage. Dubstep tracks are generally produced at a tempo of around 140 beats per minute and in recent years have developed signature half time rhythms, often heavily shuffled or syncopated, and usually, though not exclusively, including only one snare drum hit per bar, often on the third beat. Such factors make dubstep rhythms markedly different from four-to-the-floor rhythms used in other styles of electronic dance music such as house music, which usually have two snare hits accompanying the second and fourth kick drum. Often, the sense of rhythm in dubstep is propelled more by the bassline than by the percussive content.

The earliest dubstep releases, which date back to 1999, were darker, more experimental, instrumental dub remixes of 2-step garage tracks attempting to incorporate the funky elements of breakbeat, or the dark elements of drum and bass into 2-step, which featured as B-sides of single releases. In 2001, this and other strains of dark garage music began to be showcased and promoted at London’s club night Forward>>, which went on to be considerably influential to the development of dubstep. The term “dubstep” in reference to a genre of music began to be used by around 2002, by which time stylistic trends used in creating these remixes started to become more noticeable and distinct from 2-step and grime.

A very early supporter of the sound was legendary BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel, who started playing it from 2003 onwards. In 2004, the last year of his show, he put Distance, Digital Mystikz and Plasticman in his top 50 for the year. Dubstep started to spread beyond small local scenes in late 2005 and early 2006; many websites devoted to the genre appeared on the Internet and thus aided the growth of the scene, such as dubstepforum, the download site Barefiles and blogs such as gutterbreakz.Simultaneously, the genre was receiving extensive coverage in music magazines such as The Wire and online publications such as Pitchfork Media, with a regular feature entitled The Month In: Grime/Dubstep. Interest in dubstep grew significantly after BBC Radio 1 DJ Mary Anne Hobbs started championing the genre, beginning with a show devoted to it (entitled “Dubstep Warz”) in January 2006.

Kesha – Tik Tok

When asked by Pop Excess, Kesha listed Beck and Queen as major musical influences, she later told RWD Magazine that she draws from rap music and old-school punk as well. She credits her older brother with exposing her to groups such as Fugazi and Dinosaur Jr. In an interview with Digital Spy, Kesha described her music as irreverent and defended her decision to make pop music as opposed to “more serious acoustic stuff”. Label head, Barry Weiss had also called her “a mix of Madonna and the Beastie Boys”. She describes her dress style as “garbage-chic” and names Keith Richards as her fashion inspiration.

Her songwriting process is rooted in her life experiences and is greatly influenced by country music and their storytelling structure. Kesha has expressed frustration at the double standard for lyrics and objectification of women in songs. In her song “Boots and Boys”, she sings the same way men traditionally sang about women. On the dollar sign in her name, she explained that she was being ironic because she does not believe in placing an emphasis on earning money. It came about after her Flo Rida collaboration achieved success worldwide and yet she did not receive any money to show for it.

Jeff Dunham & Achmed – Jingle Bombs

December 15, 2009

httpvhd://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wskT6YfVB6E

Achmed is the skeletal corpse of an incompetent suicide bomber. He is used by Dunham to perform comedy based on the contemporary issue of terrorism. He is known for yelling, “Silence! I kill you!” to Dunham and people in the audience who laugh at him. Achmed first appeared in Spark of Insanity, and later made an appearance in the Very Special Christmas Special, singing a song called “Jingle Bombs”. Most of the humor Dunham expresses with Achmed centers on this motif. When mentioning that Achmed appears to be dead because he’s a skeleton, Achmed responds, “It’s a flesh wound.” When Dunham inquires as to how he died, Achmed explains his incompetence with explosives, while also casting aspersions on Dunham’s sexual prowess by saying that they both suffer from “premature detonation.” Although he frequently mentions working for Osama Bin Laden, Achmed claims he doesn’t think he’s a Muslim (“look at my ass! It says ‘Made in China'”). As of June 2009, the sketch in which Dunham introduced Achmed is the fourth most watched online video ever, having amassed nearly 200 million views.

Maddona Passes Out

December 9, 2009

Madge lost consciousness singing Holiday and had to be held up by a dancer. Then, as she left the stage during Spanish Lesson, she passed out and fell over.

A source said: “Madge was really worried backstage. She had to sit down for a longer than usual between songs. She refused to end the show or take a break after the [first] dizzy spell. She’s suffering from exhaustion… she is anaemic.

“She was advised to postpone the last two shows in Israel for a few days, but logistics and stubborness stopped her. She’ll do them then take some rest.”

While in Bulgaria she took a dip with her tour dancers. She is also pictured in the video for her new single Celebration, with daughter LOURDES.

Here’s one of Madona’s hit singles called Like a Virgin:

Gavin DeGraw – Chariot

December 8, 2009

httpvhd://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMtiyWF0XFk

Chariot” is a single by Gavin DeGraw released in 2005, taken from his 2003 album Chariot. It’s believed the song addresses the overwhelming feeling Gavin felt when he moved to New York from his rural hometown. In the song, he is supposedly pleading for a chariot to come and take him home (i.e. “You’ll be my vacation away from this place/ You know what I want”).

The single was another success for Gavin DeGraw and reached the top 40 of the U.S. Hot 100. It was certified Platinum.

It was featured prominently in an episode of Dead Like Me.

Gavin about Chariot:

”Chariot” is a metaphorical vehicle for getting to a place in your mind that is a more broken down and laid back. It’s somewhere to be just for a moment–instead of being wrapped up and living wherever you’re living and consumed with what you’re doing. It’s a place to release and chill out.”

James Blunt – 1973

December 7, 2009

httpvhd://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcp8p3rEKMk

“1973” is written by Mark Batson and James Blunt. “He was trying to write an English singer-songwriter song, and I was trying the Dr. Dre end of the scale,” says Blunt. The song was inspired by the club scene in Ibiza, where Blunt maintains a residence and enjoys the social scene. The song has been remixed by Pete Tong and Dave Spoon as part of their Ibiza 2007 Remix Project, and Tong started playing the remix in July 2007 when acting as DJ at Pacha, the Ibiza club that inspired the song and opened in 1973. Blunt was not born until early 1974, though, but he was therefore conceived in 1973.

Blunt has stated in a radio interview with KISFM on 8 September 2007 that the girl from his lyrics “Simona” was indeed based on a real woman he had met at the club.
